Boermans & De Groot Triumph in Thrilling Brasilia Beach Volleyball Showdown

Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot of the Netherlands clinched a remarkable gold medal at the 2025 Brasilia Elite16, part of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour, with a thrilling 2-1 win over Brazil's Evandro Oliveira and Arthur Mariano Lanci. This victory marked the Dutch duo's first gold in over a year, following a solid bronze medal performance in Saquarema just one week earlier.

Boermans and De Groot carried early momentum to take the first set 21-18. However, the Brazilian team struck back with a dramatic 23-21 second-set win, powered by a crucial ace from Evandro. The deciding set featured back-and-forth lead changes and overtime excitement. Boermans emerged as the hero, closing the match with a powerful ace for an 18-16 victory. He finished with an impressive stat line:

  • 29 total points
  • 7 blocks
  • 3 aces

For Evandro and Lanci, the silver medal was their first at an Elite16 event, enhancing a portfolio that now includes three golds and two bronzes. Their performance also showed their potential as rising stars on home sand.

Meanwhile, Norway’s renowned pair Anders Mol and Christian Sørum secured bronze by defeating Poland’s Michal Bryl and Bartosz Losiak in another intense 2-1 battle (21-16, 19-21, 20-18). This came after a grueling semifinal loss to the Brazilian team, making the third-place triumph a testament to their resilience.

The Brasilia Elite16 spotlighted the high stakes and competitive fire of the 2025 Beach Pro Tour, proving once again that momentum can shift in an instant and every rally matters.
