Canada is preparing for a significant showing at the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship, scheduled for November 14–23 in Adelaide, Australia. The event will be held at two prime locations — The Drive and Pinky Flat/Tarntanya Wama — and will attract elite athletes from around the world.
Men's Team Highlights
Leading the Canadian men’s side are Samuel Schachter and Jonathan Pickett, a newly formed duo that combines veteran experience with emerging talent. Schachter, a two-time Olympian, enters his sixth World Championship, while Pickett steps up after representing Canada in the 2019 U21 World Championship.
Placed in Pool K as the 35th seeds, they will face strong opposition, including:
- Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler (Germany) — 14th seed
- Tomás and Nicolás Capogrosso (Argentina) — 11th seed
- José Alberto Mondlane and Osvaldo Mungoi (Mozambique)
This team has benefited from an USD 84,000 grant through the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment program. The funding allowed them to hire specialized coaching under NextGen coach Josh Nichol and maintain an active season, with six international competitions including events on the Beach Pro Tour.
Women’s Team Outlook
Canada will feature two duos in the women's competition:
- Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson — ranked 10th, competing in Pool J
- Lea Monkhouse and Marie-Alex Bélanger — newcomers to the championship, placed in Pool I
Unlike the men’s team, the women’s pairs are not currently funded through the Volleyball Empowerment program. However, both teams are expected to gain crucial experience and push Canada’s development goals forward.
Looking Ahead
Though podium finishes may be ambitious in 2025, this championship serves as a critical stepping stone. Canada aims to build depth and international experience with an eye on a stronger performance at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
