Five Dutch teams are prepared to represent the Netherlands at the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, scheduled from 14 to 23 November in Adelaide, Australia. The event will showcase 96 of the world’s top beach volleyball duos, competing at The Drive and Pinky Flat in South Australia’s capital.
Men’s Teams
The Netherlands will field two men’s partnerships, each displaying strong recent form:
- Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot: Seeded second overall, this duo reached the quarterfinals at the 2023 World Championships and competed at the Paris 2024 Olympics. In 2025, they claimed gold at the Beach Pro Tour Elite16 in Brasilia and are placed in Pool B, facing teams from Australia and Norway.
- Ruben Penninga and Matthew Immers: Seeded 33rd, they are in their debut season and reached the Round of 16 at the recent European Championship. They will face American and Australian teams in Pool I.
Women’s Teams
The Dutch women’s team sends three pairs to Adelaide:
- Katja Stam and Raïsa Schoon: Among the most experienced pairs, they've consistently medaled in European tournaments. Their group includes competitors from Canada, France, and Morocco.
- Emi van Driel and Wies Bekhuis: Placed in Pool C, this new team has shown strong recent performances with appearances in semifinals on the 2025 Beach Pro Tour.
- Mila Konink and Desy Poiesz: Another rising duo competing in Pool B, they’ve reached quarterfinals in top-level events this year.
Strengthening Dutch Volleyball
These preparations are supported by a $332,000 investment through the FIVB’s Volleyball Empowerment initiative, aimed at enhancing beach volleyball development in the Netherlands. This backing helps provide resources and training that bridge veteran athletes with emerging talent.
