Qatari Duo Cherif and Ahmed Triumph at Gstaad Beach Volleyball Tournament

Qatari beach volleyball stars Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan have triumphed at the 2025 Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour's Elite16 tournament in Gstaad, Switzerland, capturing their first-ever gold medal at the prestigious Alpine venue.

The pair, who have represented Qatar at the Olympics, finally climbed to the top of the podium after six prior attempts in Gstaad. They secured a straight-set victory over Sweden’s Jacob Hölting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson with tight scores of 21-19 and 22-20. Despite Sweden's resilience in the second set, including multiple saved match points, the Qatari duo closed out the match with composure and precision.

  • This win is Cherif and Ahmed’s second title in just three tournaments this season.
  • The duo previously won in Xiamen and took fifth place in Ostrava.
  • Since their 2018 partnership, their consistent play has elevated them to elite status in international beach volleyball.

Bronze Medal Match

In the battle for third place, the Dutch team of Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot outlasted Brazil’s André Loyola and George Wanderley in an exciting three-set match (21-23, 21-17, 15-10), marking a successful tournament for the Netherlands as well.

The 2025 Beach Pro Tour moves on to its next Elite16 stop in Montréal, Canada, scheduled from August 13–17.
