Brazilian beach volleyball players Renato Lima and Pedro Oliveira secured their place in the Saquarema Elite16 main draw after defeating fellow Brazilians Vitor Felipe and Gustavo Carvalhaes in straight sets, 2-0 (26-24, 21-13). This qualifying match held added significance for Renato, as he faced his former partner Vitor, with whom he previously earned a silver medal at the 2022 World Championship.
Now partnered with 21-year-old Pedro, Renato is still early in this new collaboration. The two recently finished ninth at the Yucatán Challenge in March, marking a strong start to their partnership.
Upcoming Competition in Pool B
In the next round, Renato and Pedro will face off in one of the toughest pools of the main draw:
- Sweden’s David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig – reigning Olympic champions
- Australia’s Mark Nicolaidis and Izac Carracher
- Netherlands’ Alexander Brouwer and Steven van de Velde
Other Brazilian Success
George Wanderley and Saymon Barbosa, also from Brazil, won their qualifier match against Matthew Immers and Ruben Penninga of the Netherlands in straight sets. Saymon’s return from injury marks an encouraging sign for the Brazilian squad moving forward.
Main Draw Details
The men’s main draw begins on Thursday at Campo de Aviação and will include 24 competitive teams. Besides Brazil, teams from the United States, Canada, France, Germany, Austria, and Portugal have also earned spots via qualification.
