The German beach volleyball duo, Jonas and Benedikt Sagstetter, delivered an impressive performance at the Beach Volleyball Pro Tour Elite16 event in Ostrava, Czech Republic. In only their second main draw appearance at an Elite16 tournament, the Sagstetter brothers went unbeaten in pool play, advancing directly to the Round of 12.
Starting the competition in the qualifiers, the Germans quickly found their rhythm in Pool C. Their tournament highlights include:
- A strong opening win against the Capogrosso brothers of Argentina, who are currently ranked second in the world.
- A close straight-sets victory (21-19, 24-22) over the American team of Chaim Schalk and James Shaw.
Securing the top spot in their pool, the Sagstetters avoided the pressure of the Round of 18 and moved confidently into the final 12.
The tournament, hosted at the historic Lower Vítkovice industrial complex, has gathered several top-ranked teams. Amongst the other teams topping their pools are:
- David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig (Sweden) – Olympic gold medalists
- Anders Mol and Christian Sørum (Norway) – World number ones
- Evandro Gonçalves and Arthur Lanci (Brazil)
- Ahmed Tijan and Cherif Younousse (Qatar)
- Michal Bryl and Bartosz Łosiak (Poland)
Saturday’s schedule will see the conclusion of the Round of 18, followed by the Round of 12 and quarterfinal matches. The championship and semifinal rounds are set for Sunday, concluding what promises to be an electrifying tournament.
With their unbeaten record and rising chemistry, the Sagstetter brothers are making a strong case as dark horse contenders for the title.
