Swiss duo Yves Haussener and Julian Friedli have secured a place in the semifinals of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Yucatan Challenge after battling through the qualification stages in Puerto Progreso, Mexico.
Road to the Semifinals
Haussener and Friedli faced tough competition in the qualifiers, beginning with a challenging match against Germany’s Philipp Huster and Maximilian Just. They emerged victorious in a closely contested battle, winning 2-1 (23-21, 22-24, 17-15), with Friedli making a significant impact by recording nine blocks and a match-high 29 points.
Later, they overcame Brazilian team Adelmo Folha and Mateus Dultra in another hard-fought three-set match, claiming a 2-1 (21-23, 21-17, 15-13) victory. Friedli once again led the scoring effort with 25 points.
Upcoming Semifinal Challenge
The Swiss pair will now face Austria’s Christoph Dressler and Philipp Waller, who have already pulled off upsets against second-seeded Chilean duo Marco Grimalt and Esteban Grimalt, as well as Sweden’s Jacob Holting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson.
Other Semifinal Matchup
The second semifinal will feature Portugal’s Joao Pedrosa and Hugo Campos taking on reigning world champions Ondrej Perusic and David Schweiner of Czechia. All semifinal matches are scheduled for Sunday, with the final to follow later that day.
