Top Beach Volleyball Athletes Return to Montréal for Elite Showdown

Montréal is set to host the sixth Elite16 stop of the 2025 Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour at Parc Jean-Drapeau from August 13 to 17. This premier event promises intense international competition, featuring Olympic medalists and top-ranked beach volleyball teams battling for critical points and podium placements.

This marks the second Elite-level tournament in Montréal within three years. After a 16-year absence, the city's 2023 return to international beach volleyball helped re-establish its significant presence on the tour calendar.

Canadian Teams in the Spotlight

Fans will see Canadian Olympic silver medalists Brandie Wilkerson and Melissa Humana-Paredes aiming to replicate past success on home sand after their 2023 gold-medal performance in Montréal. Another Canadian duo, Marie-Alex Bélanger and Lea Monkhouse, will compete in the main draw via a wildcard. Meanwhile, Devin Corah and Ruby Sorra will start in the qualification rounds.

Global Talent Hits the Sand

  • Victoria Lopes and Thamela Coradello (Brazil) lead the women’s draw as world No. 1s, bringing two Elite16 titles into the tournament.
  • Top contenders include Brazil’s Olympic champions Eduarda “Duda” Lisboa and Ana Patrícia Ramos, alongside Germany’s Svenja Müller and Cinja Tillmann, currently ranked second in the world.

On the men’s side, defending champions and five-time European titleholders Anders Mol and Christian Sørum (Norway) return to defend their crown. They’ll face stiff competition from:

  • Sweden’s Olympic gold medalists David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig
  • Qatar’s world medalists Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan
  • Czech world champions Ondřej Perušič and David Schweiner

Canadian wildcards Sam Schachter and Jonathan Pickett will compete in the men’s main draw, while Tynan Gannett and Luke de Greeff aim to qualify through the earlier rounds.
