Uhl and Schurholz Triumph with First Gold at Beach Pro Tour in Madrid

Germany’s Janne Uhl and Paula Schurholz earned their first Beach Pro Tour gold medal in remarkable fashion at the 2025 Madrid Futures. Their victory marks a significant step forward in their professional beach volleyball careers.

Seeded ninth at the start of the tournament, the German pair lost only one of their six matches — a pool play setback against home favorites and Olympians Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno. From there, Uhl and Schurholz rallied through elimination.

Key highlights of their journey included:

  • A 2-1 semifinal victory over Slovenia’s Tjasa Kotnik and Maja Marolt
  • A tight, three-set final win against France’s Alex Merle and Anouk Dupin (21-13, 18-21, 20-18)

Madrid's win adds to a growing list of accomplishments for the German duo, who had already medaled twice on tour – once in silver, once in bronze – signaling their evolution into consistent top contenders.

Other Medalists

France’s Alex Merle and Anouk Dupin captured silver, benefiting from the unfortunate withdrawal of the Spanish team due to injury. While this was their first medal as a team, Dupin had previously topped the podium in Valencia with a different partner.

The bronze went to Slovenian pair Kotnik and Marolt, who earned their first medal since 2022 when they claimed silver at the Ljubljana Futures.

Tournament Significance

The Madrid Futures event featured 27 women’s teams from 16 different nations, underscoring the depth and reach of competition on the Beach Pro Tour. The tour now moves onward with upcoming Futures events in Spiez, Switzerland, and Wuhan Qingshan, China.
