Australian duo Mark Nicolaidis and Izac Carracher have secured their first Challenge gold medal at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour in Shangluo, China. This achievement marks a significant milestone as it represents their inaugural Challenge-level medal outside of Australia, complementing earlier accomplishments at the Futures level.

The Shangluo Challenge was a major event, featuring 52 men's teams from 23 different nations, highlighting its significance in the beach volleyball calendar. Nicolaidis and Carracher, seeded ninth, demonstrated exceptional prowess throughout the tournament. They maintained an impeccable record with five straight-set victories, concluding with a semifinal win against Germany's Nils Ehlers and Lui Wust, with a score of 2-0 (21-15, 21-15).

In an exciting final, the Australians competed against Germany's Philipp Huster and Sven Winter. Despite losing their only set in the tournament, Nicolaidis and Carracher claimed the gold with a 2-1 (19-21, 21-15, 16-14) comeback victory. Carracher excelled with nine kill blocks and achieved a match-high of 28 points.

Huster and Winter, who were seeded 12th, earned the silver medal, marking their first Beach Pro Tour podium finish as a team. They advanced to the final after defeating Czech pair Jakub Sepka and Jiri Sedlak 2-0 (21-16, 21-19) in the semifinals.

Ehlers and Wust rounded off the podium by winning bronze after overcoming the Czechs in the third-place match, with a score of 2-0 (21-17, 21-16).
