The Austrian beach volleyball team of Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger delivered a stunning performance at the 2025 Brasilia Elite16, securing the top spot in their pool despite entering the tournament as qualifiers.
Ranked 22nd out of 24 total teams, the duo exceeded expectations during just their second Elite16 main draw appearance. Their campaign kicked off with a powerful straight-set victory over the third-seeded Dutch team of Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot, posting a commanding 21-13, 21-17 scoreline.
Next, the Austrians showcased resilience and teamwork in a thrilling three-set win over Brazil’s Evandro Oliveira and Arthur Mariano Lanci. After dropping the first set 18-21, they rallied to steal the match 24-22, 15-11 in the following sets.
Their success was part of a day filled with unexpected upsets. In Pool D, Canada’s Samuel Schachter and Jonathan Pickett—also qualifiers—defeated Cuba’s fourth-seeded Noslen Diaz and Jorge Alayo in straight sets.
