Dutch Duos Dominate Apeldoorn Beach Volleyball Event

The Dutch beach volleyball teams showcased their exceptional talent and capitalized on their home advantage by excelling at the Apeldoorn Futures event on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour. This competition, held in the Netherlands, saw remarkable victories for the host nation.

In the women's division, the Dutch duo of Leanne van Vegten and 18-year-old Jill de Groot won the gold medal, achieving their first medal on the Beach Pro Tour. They delivered an unmatched performance, leading their group and defeating Czechia's Andrea Lorenzova and Mariana Tomasova 2-0 in the final.

The men's event highlighted another outstanding performance by Dutch pair Tom Sonneville and Quinten Groenewold. The 18-year-old Sonneville and his partner added a gold to their achievements, marking a streak of three consecutive medals on the tour. They triumphed over Estonian qualifiers Mart Tiisaar and Dimitriy Korotkov with a 2-0 victory to claim the top podium spot.

This tournament also spotlighted strong performances from international teams:

  • Estonia's Tiisaar and Korotkov earned silver.
  • German qualifiers Tristan Frobel and Tamo Wust clinched bronze, both teams advancing from the qualification rounds.

The Apeldoorn Futures event confirmed the Netherlands as a key battleground for rising talents in beach volleyball, with the participation of 28 men's and 28 women's teams from 24 countries. The next stages of the Beach Pro Tour will move to Wuhan, China, and Cervia, Italy, promising more exciting matchups in 2026.
