The Philippines celebrated a major milestone in beach volleyball as two teams claimed top spots at the 2026 Busan Futures on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour. Khylem Harl Progella and Sofiah Shanine Pagara clinched the gold medal after defeating countrywomen Cherry Ann Rondina and Bernadeth Pons in an all-Filipino final. This victory marked their first gold and also their debut medal on the Beach Pro Tour, following a brilliant run of seven straight wins.
Progella and Pagara, seeded 13th out of 16 teams, delivered an impressive performance, dropping only two sets throughout the tournament. They won the semifinal against Japan's Mayu Sawame and Wakana Akishige in three sets, showing their determination and skill. Rondina and Pons, ranked third, reached the final by overcoming Australia's Jana Milutinovic and Jasmine Rayner in a close semifinal match, earning their first tour medal as a team.
Australia’s Milutinovic and Rayner secured the bronze after a tough match against Sawame and Akishige, marking their first podium finish as a duo. The Busan Futures, featuring 26 women's teams from different federations, highlighted the Philippines' growing strength in beach volleyball. The tournament will continue with upcoming events in Tallinn, Estonia, and Bujumbura, Burundi.
