Paraguayan beach volleyball duo Michelle Valiente and Giuliana Poletti made an impressive start at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite event in Quintana Roo, Mexico, securing a spot in the elimination rounds.
After progressing from the qualifiers, Valiente and Poletti pulled off a stunning victory over the tournament’s second-seeded Brazilians, Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes, in a thrilling three-set match (17-21, 21-18, 15-11). Earlier, they dominated France’s Alexia Richard and Lézana Placette in straight sets (21-13, 21-19) to earn their place in the main draw.
With this victory, the duo, who are also Paraguay’s first Olympic beach volleyball representatives for Paris 2024, have secured a place in the Round of 18. Their next challenge is against the Netherlands' Raisa Schoon and Emi van Driel on Thursday as they fight for a direct entry into the Round of 12.
The action in Playa del Carmen continues with the final pool stage matches, which will determine the 18 teams progressing to the next round.
