Portuguese Duo Pedrosa and Campos Advance to Round of 12 at Saquarema Beach Pro Tour

Portuguese beach volleyball duo João Pedrosa and Hugo Campos have advanced to the Round of 12 in the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Elite16, taking place in Saquarema, Brazil. Their successful Friday run comes after bouncing back from an initial setback in pool play.

Their campaign began with a loss to Cuba’s Noslen Diaz and Jorge Alayo, but they stayed in contention by staging a comeback win against American Olympians Chase Budinger and Miles Evans in a tight three-set battle (19-21, 21-15, 15-13). They maintained that momentum by defeating Italy’s Samuele Cottafava and Gianluca Dal Corso in straight sets (21-17, 21-15) during the Round of 18.

Pedrosa and Campos, bronze medalists at the Yucatán Challenge earlier this season, now look ahead to a tough Round of 12 matchup against Dutch pair Stefan Boermans and Yorick de Groot.

Other Teams Advancing

  • Renato Lima and Pedro Oliveira (Brazil) secured two wins on Friday to progress.
  • Brazilians Evandro Gonçalves and Arthur Lanci advanced after a tie-break win versus Norway’s Hendrik Mol and Mathias Berntsen.

Key Round of 12 Matchups

  • Poland’s Michal Bryl and Bartosz Łosiak vs. Norway’s Anders Mol and Christian Sørum
  • Netherlands’ Alexander Brouwer and Steven van de Velde vs. Cuba’s Noslen Diaz and Jorge Alayo

Saturday promises an action-packed schedule, featuring the Round of 12 and quarterfinal matches, as top teams vie for a podium finish in this high-stakes Beach Pro Tour event.
