Remi Bassereau Honors Mother with New Competition Name in Beach Volleyball

French beach volleyball player Remi Bassereau has embraced a new competition name, Remi Daubas, to honor his mother as he begins the 2026 Beach Pro Tour season. This change signifies his personal journey of self-expression in the sport, continuing his collaboration with his partner, Calvin Ayé.

At 27, Bassereau is demonstrating strong potential in his sixth season on the tour. He recently secured a silver medal in João Pessoa and achieved a solid fourth-place ranking at Saquarema, indicating a potentially transformative year. These accomplishments could elevate his position in the international beach volleyball rankings.

The transition from his father's surname to his mother's marks a fresh chapter for Bassereau as he sets his sights on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. This decision follows his participation under his previous name in the Paris 2024 Olympics, with his mother's maiden name now featured prominently on his jersey.

Currently ranked 7th globally, Bassereau is working hard to maintain his position in the Elite Main Draw, which provides him the platform to compete against top international teams. Recent performances have illustrated improved utilization of their physical strengths, bolstering their global standing.

Fans eagerly await as Bassereau and Ayé prepare for the upcoming Beach Pro Tour Elite event in Brasilia, Brazil, scheduled from April 29 to May 3, 2026.
