The Balikesir Futures event, part of the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour, concluded with impressive performances by teams from Ukraine and Italy. Both teams succeeded in clinching gold medals, maintaining a perfect record throughout the competition held in Turkiye.
Ukraine's pair, Tetiana Lazarenko and Sofiia Kurnikova, demonstrated remarkable consistency by winning all their matches in straight sets. They ended their run with a 2-0 victory over Spain’s Belen Carro and Paula Soria in the final. This victory marks their second podium finish this month, following their achievement at the Sveti Vlas Futures.
For the men, Italy's Tobia Marchetto and Riccardo Iervolino, who were seeded 15th, exceeded expectations by overcoming higher-seeded teams to claim the title. Their wins included a semifinal triumph against Ukraine's Dmytro Kozii and Sviatoslav Nahornyi, and a crucial victory over Turkey's defending champions, Yusuf Ozdemir and Batuhan Kuru, in the final.
Teams from Spain, the Netherlands, and Turkiye also made it to the podium. Spain's Carro and Soria earned the silver medals, while Dutch teams secured both bronze medals in tightly contested matches against strong opponents.
Balikesir Futures showcased talent from 20 different federations, featuring 22 women's and 25 men’s pairs in competition. The Beach Pro Tour is now set to head to its next stops in Rzeszow, Poland, and Messina, Italy, promising thrilling beach volleyball action in early July.
