Qatar’s beach volleyball stars Cherif Younousse and Ahmed Tijan delivered another dominant performance as they captured the title at the Newport Beach Elite16 tournament, solidifying their place at the top of the 2025 Beach Pro Tour standings.
Despite injury setbacks earlier in the season, the Olympic bronze medalists have remained a formidable force. In Newport Beach, they swept through the tournament with a flawless 6-0 record, conceding only a single set. Their final victory came in straight sets against Brazil’s Evandro Gonçalves and Arthur Lanci (21-16, 30-28).

The Newport Beach tournament was the tenth Elite16 event of the season and brought together top talent from around the world. South America also shined, with Chile’s Marco and Esteban Grimalt taking third place — their first podium finish this season after a hard-fought bronze medal match against American duo Trevor and Taylor Crabb.

With this victory, Cherif and Ahmed are riding high and showing signs of reaching peak form ahead of the next Elite16 tournament in Cape Town, South Africa, scheduled for October 22–26.
