Swiss Duo Bossart & Kernen Thrive in Their Final U21 Beach Volleyball Championship

Muriel Bossart and Leona Kernen of Switzerland have successfully secured a spot in the round of 16 at the 2025 FIVB U21 Beach Volleyball World Championship, held in Puebla, Mexico. This marks their final tournament at the U21 level, and they’re making it a memorable exit.

Placed in Pool G, the Swiss duo advanced as second-place finishers after a tight three-set battle with Brazil’s Carolina Sallaberry and Julhia Perandre. They demonstrated their strength and resilience by defeating Costa Rica’s Aliza Aguilar and Laura Molina decisively in the round of 24 with a score of 2-0 (21-12, 21-7).

Next on their path is a match against Canada’s Ruby Sorra and Ofure Odigie, with a quarterfinal berth at stake. The Swiss pair’s years of partnership have cultivated a natural chemistry on the court, largely attributed to their previous successes including:

  • European U18 Championship title
  • European U20 Championship title

This championship not only concludes their junior chapter but also ushers in a new phase of their careers. Leona Kernen, in particular, is set for a significant step forward, as she will partner with Tanja Hüberli in next month’s FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championship in Adelaide — taking the place of Nina Brunner, who is currently unavailable.

The 2025 U21 World Championship has brought together elite youth talent from around the globe. The event continues to highlight the intensity and precision these young stars bring, positioning them as the next contenders on the world stage. Bossart and Kernen, with their strong showing and career trajectory, are undoubtedly part of that conversation.
