Top Teams Gear Up for Joao Pessoa Beach Volleyball Showdown

The 2025 Beach Volleyball Pro Tour makes its eighth Elite16 stop this season in Joao Pessoa, Brazil, beginning this Wednesday. As the third Elite16 event hosted by Brazil this year, it highlights the nation's continued influence in global beach volleyball.

All eyes are on world number one duo, Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes, who return to defend their 2024 title. Their recent dominance includes two gold medals and a silver—most notably at the Hamburg Elite. Also making a powerful return are Olympic champions Ana Patricia Ramos and Eduarda "Duda" Santos Lisboa, seeded fourth after missing last year's event. They’re determined to reclaim the 2023 title they previously won at this venue.

The women’s main draw will feature 24 international teams:

  • Kristen Nuss and Taryn Kloth (USA) – fresh off a victory at the Gstaad Elite
  • Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova (Latvia)
  • Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson (Canada)
  • Anouk and Zoe Verge-Depre (Switzerland)

Brazil continues to dominate the rankings, contributing multiple powerhouse teams. Carol Solberg and Rebecca Cavalcanti, ranked second globally, will be formidable opponents, while experienced pair Talita Antunes and Taiana Lima aim to build on their 2024 runner-up finish.

The tournament schedule is as follows:

  1. Wednesday: Eight qualification matches to finalize main draw entries
  2. Thursday: Start of pool play in a streamlined format
  3. Sunday: Medal round matches and crowning of champions

The Joao Pessoa event serves as a pivotal moment in the Beach Pro Tour season, promising high-stakes drama and reaffirming Brazil’s prominence in the sport.
