France's Beach Volleyball Teams Gear Up for Medal Quest in Adelaide

France is set to make a bold push at the 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide, Australia, from November 14–23. The nation is fielding four competitive teams—two men’s and two women’s pairs—following a surge of momentum from the recent European competitions and the Olympic Games in Paris.

French Teams to Watch

Men’s Teams:

  • Rémi Bassereau and Calvin Aye, seeded 13th, bring Olympic experience from Paris 2024 and solid recent form from the European Championship.
  • Téo Rotar and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat, seeded 18th, represent a mix of youth and veteran poise. Gauthier-Rat is making his third Worlds appearance, while Rotar debuts at the senior level after excelling in youth competitions.

Women’s Teams:

  • Clémence Vieira and Aline Chamereau, ranked 15th, ride high after clinching silver at the 2025 European Championship.
  • Lézana Placette and Alexia Richard, seeded 28th, bring nearly a decade of partnership experience, dating back to the 2014 Youth Olympic Games.

Coaching and Development

These squads are guided by a robust coaching setup thanks to major investment through the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Programme, which has provided nearly USD 1 million in support. Brazilian coach Elmer Calvis Lopes leads the men’s team, while former French national player Youssef Krou is at the helm of the women’s side.

Championship Structure

The World Championships will feature 48 teams per gender, split into 12 pools. France’s teams will begin in pool play, aiming to finish in the top two of their groups or as one of the four best third-place teams. Those narrowly missing direct qualification have a final chance via the “lucky loser round” to advance to the round of 32.

Path to Podium and Beyond

Following their exposure on the world stage at Paris 2024, France's teams seek not just participation but podium finishes in Adelaide. This tournament marks a crucial test case en route to bigger Olympic goals, with Los Angeles 2028 already in their sights.
