Spain's Dani & Tania Aim for Glory at Beach Volleyball World Championships in Adelaide

Spain’s promising beach volleyball duo, Daniela Álvarez Mendoza and Tania Moreno Matveeva, are gearing up for a breakthrough performance at the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, set to be held in Adelaide, Australia, from 14–23 November. After reaching the Round of 32 in their championship debut in 2023, the pair aims to push further this year and secure their first senior-level medal.

The tournament, hosted at The Drive and Pinky Flat/Tarntanya Wama in South Australia, will test the Spanish team’s growth and consistency. Their recent achievements include:

  • Quarterfinal finish at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games
  • Fourth place at the 2025 European Championships
  • Silver medal at the 2023 European Championship
  • Gold at the 2022 European Under-22 Championship

Their coach, Brazilian-born Marco Pires Albuquerque Stanzani, plays a key role in their development, and the duo also benefits from the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Programme. This initiative supports teams from developing volleyball nations, aiming to increase competitiveness and provide long-term support to help shape future stars of the sport.

In Adelaide, Dani & Tania will compete in Pool G against the following teams:

  • Monika Paulikiene & Aine Raupelyte (Lithuania)
  • Jasmine Fleming & Stefanie Fejes (Australia)
  • Molly Shaw & Kelly Cheng (USA, Olympic gold medalist and 7th seed)

Advancement depends on the top two teams in each pool and the four best third-place finishers making it directly to the Round of 32. Other third-place teams must win an elimination “lucky loser” match to progress.

Success in Adelaide would not only elevate Dani & Tania’s international ranking but also serve as an important milestone as they move toward the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

The Championships will feature 48 teams per gender, all vying for global recognition and a direct ticket to the Olympic stage.
