2025 AVP League: Kicking Off a Dynamic Season

The 2025 AVP League season signals a transformative shift in professional beach volleyball, introducing a city-based team format alongside a revamped championship structure. This evolution begins on May 23–24 in Palm Beach, where athletes from eight franchises will compete for both collective glory and individual acclaim.

New Dual Championship Structure

This season brings a unique two-tiered competition:

  • AVP League Cup: Awarded to the city-based franchise with the best combined win-loss record during the regular season. This title is earned solely through consistent weekly performance, with no playoffs.
  • AVP League Championships: A single-elimination postseason event held on August 30–31 in Chicago. The top six men’s and women’s pairs based on regular season records qualify to compete.

Franchise Highlights

Key teams and players to watch this season include:

  • Palm Beach Passion: Featuring Olympic medalist Brandie Wilkerson and veteran Phil Dalhausser, who in an emotional storyline, plans to retire at season’s end.
  • San Diego Smash: The reigning champions return with Chase Budinger and Miles Evans, fresh off a strong showing at the 2024 Olympics.
  • Dallas Dream: Led by standout duo Miles Partain and Andy Benesh, determined to top their runner-up finish from last year.

A New Era of Strategy and City Pride

This innovative format not only heightens the competitive intensity with added strategic dimensions but also fuels city rivalries, creating a broader fanbase and deeper community engagement. The fusion of team dynamics with individual pursuits promises an engaging experience for all.
