The 2025 AVP Manhattan Beach Open concluded with thrilling victories as Taryn Brasher and Kristen Nuss claimed the women’s title for the second straight year, while Chase Budinger and Miles Evans earned their first win at this prestigious event.
Brasher and Nuss Make History
Brasher and Nuss fought through adversity, coming from behind to beat second seeds Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft in three competitive sets (15–21, 21–18, 15–13). This marked their seventh consecutive AVP final win, making them the first duo since 2017 to capture back-to-back titles at Manhattan Beach.
In the semifinal, the top-seeded pair ended a Cinderella run by No. 19 seeds Kennedy Coakley and Ashley Pater, who surprised many with a deep tournament run into the final four.
Men’s Final Dominated by Budinger and Evans
Chase Budinger and Miles Evans delivered a stellar performance, defeating seasoned veterans Trevor Crabb and Phil Dalhausser in straight sets (21–19, 21–16). It was a landmark win for Evans, the first AVP title of his career, and a pivotal moment for Budinger, who has now triumphed with a new partner.
On the way to the championship, they contested a hard-fought semifinal against No. 3 seeds Chaim Schalk and James Shaw, showcasing their resilience and readiness at the highest level.
A Semifinal Stage Full of Heavyweights
For the first time since 2016, all four top seeds reached the men’s semifinals, underlining the depth of talent in this year’s draw. Crabb and Dalhausser continued their legacy of consistency, with one or both appearing in eight of the last ten Manhattan Beach finals.
Looking Ahead
All eyes now turn to the AVP League Championship in Chicago, taking place on August 30–31. Brasher and Nuss enter as the No. 1 women’s seed, while Budinger and Evans are seeded fifth and look to sustain their winning momentum.
Known for its storied history and iconic pier backdrop, the Manhattan Beach Open remains a cornerstone of beach volleyball, blending elite competition with emerging athletic talent.
