Sweden’s Olympic champions David Åhman and Jonatan Hellvig made a triumphant start to their 2025 season by clinching gold at the Ostrava Elite16 tournament on the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour. They achieved a hard-fought victory over Norway’s elite pair, Anders Mol and Christian Sørum, in a gripping three-set match (28-30, 21-17, 15-7).
This win not only defends their previous title in Ostrava but also marks their first triumph since standing atop the podium at the Paris 2024 Olympics. It halts a two-match losing streak against the Norwegians in gold-medal showdowns, narrowing their rivalry deficit to 8-6.
Highlights from Ostrava
- The competition was hosted in the dynamic Lower Vítkovice district of Ostrava, Czech Republic.
- Åhman and Hellvig had earlier finished fifth in Quintana Roo and second in Saquarema before this win.
- Czech champions Ondřej Perušič and David Schweiner captured bronze on home soil, overpowering Poland’s Michal Bryl and Bartosz Łosiak (23-21, 21-13).
With this performance, Åhman and Hellvig now boast 12 international titles and reassert their dominance on the global beach volleyball scene.
