Four American women's beach volleyball teams have advanced to the quarterfinals at the Beach Pro Tour Elite Series held in Quintana Roo, Mexico, marking a remarkable achievement and a strong showing from Team USA.
Dominant Performances by U.S. Teams
The tournament saw standout performances, particularly from the top-seeded duo Kristen Nuss and Taryn Brasher. They moved through their matches with ease, notching two straight-set victories against teams from Brazil and Ukraine. Their consistency and communication were key to their success.
Other U.S. teams also rose to the occasion:
- Corinne Quiggle and Chloe Loreen impressed with a come-from-behind win in a three-set thriller against Lithuania, then overpowering Austria’s Klinger sisters with a solid performance.
- Kelly Cheng, reigning world champion, teamed up with substitute Molly Shaw. Despite being a new pairing, they defeated both a Chinese team and the American team of Cannon and Kraft.
- Though Terese Cannon and Megan Kraft lost to the Cheng-Shaw pairing, they earned a quarterfinal spot due to their excellent rally point differential.
International Surprises Shake the Bracket
Beyond the U.S. domination, there were notable upsets. Switzerland’s Tanja Hüberli and Leona Kernen shocked Brazil’s Olympic champions Ana Patrícia Ramos and Duda in straight sets. Teams from Austria, Brazil, and Germany also secured quarterfinal positions.
What’s Next
The competition continues on Saturday with both quarterfinal and semifinal matches. As the intensity heightens, teams look ahead to Sunday’s medal matches with high hopes and fierce determination.
