Austrian Duo Horst & Pristauz Advance to Veracruz Challenge Main Event

Austrian beach volleyball pair Alexander Horst and Moritz Pristauz have successfully secured a spot in the main draw of the Veracruz Challenge, part of the 2025 Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour. The duo triumphed in the qualifying round with a straight-set win over Poland’s U19 world champions, Szymon Pietraszek and Jakub Krzeminski, with a score of 2-0 (21-16, 21-19).

This achievement marks their second qualification into a main draw since forming their partnership earlier in the season. Previously, they had made it into the Hamburg Elite event.

Horst, a 42-year-old four-time Olympian, demonstrated strong synergy with Pristauz, who led the team with 18 points, including four blocks. Horst added another 12 points to complete the victory.

Upcoming Match

Seeded 24th, Horst and Pristauz are set to face the ninth-seeded American team, Chaim Schalk and James Shaw, when the main draw commences on Thursday.

Alongside the Austrian team, the following pairs have also made it into the main draw:

Additionally, Canada’s Tynan Gannett and Luke de Greeff qualified as lucky losers, despite dropping their final qualifying match to a Norwegian team.

The main draw will officially begin on Thursday at 14:00 local time, bringing more high-level beach volleyball action to Veracruz as part of the ongoing Beach Pro Tour season.
