Austria is adopting a dynamic approach at the 2025 Beach Volleyball World Championship in Adelaide by combining youthful energy with experienced leadership. This strategy reflects the nation's ambitious push to secure global recognition in the sport.
Austria’s Competing Teams
Two men’s teams will represent Austria, each offering unique advantages:
- Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger: A young yet accomplished duo, ages 21 and 20, making their senior World Championship debut. They’ve already captured gold at the 2022 European Under-20 Championship and silver at the 2023 World Under-21 Championship. Seeded 15th, they will play in Pool J against high-ranking opponents, including Olympic bronze medallists from Qatar.
- Christoph Dressler and Philipp Waller: A more seasoned team, competing together at the World Championship level for the first time. Ranked 29th, they are placed in Pool E with formidable competition, including the fifth-seeded Polish team.
Tournament Format
The World Championship structure includes:
- 48 teams split across 12 pools of four.
- The top two teams from each pool, along with four best third-place finishers, go directly to the Round of 16.
- The remaining eight third-place teams enter a "lucky loser" round for the final knockout positions.
Support and Long-Term Goals
Austria’s path is strengthened by the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment Programme. This includes a two-year coaching support grant valued at USD 84,000, aimed at boosting team performance and qualification for future Olympics.
The tournament will be held from 14–23 November at multiple venues in South Australia, notably The Drive and Pinky Flat/Tarntanya Wama. It represents a key opportunity for Austria to rise in international standings and build momentum for future achievements.
