Empowered Volleyball Teams Shine at Songkhla Futures

The 2025 Songkhla Futures in Thailand saw an impressive showcase of talent, with FIVB-supported beach volleyball teams claiming four medals across the men’s and women’s competitions. As the third event in the 2025 Beach Pro Tour, it served as a testament to how vital development support has become in producing world-class competitors.

Men's Podium Highlights

Israel’s Eylon Elazar and Kevin Cuzmiciov emerged as top contenders, capturing their first gold medal as a pair. The duo swept all five of their matches, conceding just one set during the entire tournament. In the gold medal match, they defeated Austria’s Alexander Huber and Robin Seidl in straight sets—an impressive feat considering it was the Austrians’ first season as a reunited pair since the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Thai players Dunwinit Kaewsai and Banlue Nakprakhong earned the host nation a bronze medal after an intense win over Germany’s Momme Lorenz and Tilo Rietschel. The Thai duo previously lost a tight semifinal match to the Austrian team.

Women’s Results

Japan’s Ren and Non Matsumoto advanced to the final undefeated before falling to American sisters Alaina and Morgan Chacon in a thrilling three-set match. The Chacon sisters extended their winning streak, adding this gold medal to their earlier success at Coolangatta Futures.

China’s Yu Tong and Jiang Kaiyue secured bronze after defeating the Thai duo of Salinda Mungkhon and Samitta Simarongnam in another closely contested three-set match.

Empowerment and Global Reach

The event featured 56 teams—28 men’s pairs and 28 women’s pairs—from 24 different nations. Many of the medalists were products of the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment programme, which provides financial aid and coaching resources to help national programs strengthen their beach volleyball initiatives.

What’s Next

The Beach Pro Tour continues later this month with upcoming Futures events scheduled in Valencia, Spain, and Nuvali, Philippines, promising more thrilling action and opportunities for emerging teams.
