Empowerment Teams Dominate Madrid Beach Volleyball Event

The Empowerment-backed teams were the center of attention at the men's Madrid Futures beach volleyball event, providing a thrilling spectacle for fans eagerly following the competition. This tournament was a segment of the Beach Pro Tour and concluded with teams from Latvia, Estonia, and the Netherlands winning gold, silver, and bronze medals, respectively.

Latvia's Edgars Tocs and Gustavs Auzins achieved their first gold medal on the Beach Pro Tour. Despite being seeded 10th, they exhibited exceptional skill and maintained an undefeated streak throughout the tournament. They displayed a remarkable comeback in the semifinals against Hungary’s Bence Tari and Lukas Niemeier, culminating in a victorious final match. Their win over Estonia’s Mart Tiisaar and Dimitriy Korotkov was finalized after the Estonian duo had to withdraw due to an injury.

Tiisaar and Korotkov from Estonia, who were ninth-seed, secured the silver medal, marking their second podium finish on the Beach Pro Tour. They achieved a semifinal victory against the second-seeded Dutch team, setting up an eagerly anticipated match against the Latvians in the finals.

Representing the Netherlands, Tom Sonneville and Quinten Groenewold clinched the bronze medal. Although they faced a loss in the semifinals, the young duo showed determination by defeating Tari and Niemeier in the battle for third place, earning their second tour medal.

With 27 teams participating from 17 different federations, the event demonstrated the international appeal and competitive nature of the sport.
