Empowerment Teams Dominate Saquarema Elite Beach Volleyball Event

The recent Beach Pro Tour Saquarema Elite in Brazil showcased the power of empowerment teams, who claimed an impressive five out of six available medals. This event, governed by the FIVB, reflected the positive impact of the Volleyball Empowerment initiative, which focuses on supporting national beach volleyball teams through investments in coaching and development.

In the men's competition, Norway's Anders Mol and Christian Sorum continued their impressive streak by capturing gold. Sweden's Jacob Holting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson secured silver, and Latvia's Martins Plavins and Kristians Fokerots took home the bronze. These teams benefitted from FIVB's strategic financial support aimed at enhancing their coaching and development structures.

On the women's side, the Canadian team of Melissa Humana-Paredes and Brandie Wilkerson secured silver, having been supported by significant FIVB funding for coaching development. Switzerland's Tanja Huberli and Nina Brunner earned bronze, backed by their national program's Empowerment support. Leading the women's competition, the USA's Kristen Cruz and Taryn Brasher clinched gold, sustaining their undefeated run at the event.

The tournament featured a competitive field consisting of 32 men's teams and 30 women's teams from 20 different countries. The next Beach Pro Tour Elite event is scheduled to take place in Brasilia, Brazil, from April 29 to May 3. The Saquarema Elite tournament highlighted the success of FIVB's empowerment initiatives, driving excellence in international beach volleyball.
