Latvia's Martins Plavins and Kristians Fokerots demonstrated impressive skill and determination at the Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour event in Rio de Janeiro, clinching their first Elite gold medal. The veteran and his young partner performed remarkably on the sand, securing their victory with a commanding 2-0 win over the French duo Remi Bassereau Daubas and Calvin Aye in the final match. This triumph marks the Latvian duo's third gold and eighth overall medal in the Beach Pro Tour circuit.

The tournament in Rio de Janeiro featured participation from 30 men's teams representing 14 different federations, underscoring beach volleyball's global appeal. Plavins, an experienced Olympian and the 2012 Olympic bronze medalist, teamed up with two-time age-group world champion Fokerots to dominate the competition, losing only one set throughout the event.

French teams also enjoyed success in the tournament. Daubas and Aye not only won silver, adding to their impressive medal collection from previous tours, but compatriots Teo Rotar and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat secured the bronze after a challenging three-set match against Austrian contenders Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger.

This event in Rio de Janeiro further established the Beach Pro Tour as a premier fixture in beach volleyball, showcasing top talent and intense competition. Fans can look forward to more high-level beach volleyball action as the next Elite event is scheduled in Hamburg, Germany from August 5 to 9.
