Australian beach volleyball player Luke Ryan has officially earned a spot in the 2025 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships, marking a triumphant return to the sport after a serious shoulder injury nearly ended his career.
The journey began in 2022 when Ryan suffered a dislocated shoulder, an injury that initially resisted rehabilitation efforts and ultimately led to surgery. During his recovery, Ryan relocated to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, where he focused on rebuilding strength through intensive, self-directed training routines.
By late 2023, his persistence was rewarded with a national tour victory, which helped him regain national recognition and the confidence of Australia’s top volleyball coaches. This performance earned him a key spot in the Performance Beach Volleyroos program.
Currently training full-time in Adelaide, Ryan competes on the Asian Beach Volleyball circuit, where his consistent results led to his qualification for next year’s World Championships.
