Puerto Rico and Mexico continued to show their dominance on the 2025 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour by earning podium finishes in the seventh stage, held in Zapopan, Jalisco.
Puerto Rico Captures Fifth Consecutive Gold
The Puerto Rican duo of María González and Allanis Navas clinched their fifth straight gold medal of the tour. In an incredible comeback during the women's final, they overcame a first-set loss to defeat the U.S. team of Michelle Shaffer and Rachael Kramer with scores of 14-21, 21-18, 15-9.
This victory:
- Maintains their unbeaten streak for the year
- Marks their 18th career NORCECA medal
Mexico Takes Silver on the Men’s Side
On the men's side, Mexicans José Ángel Cardenas and Jorman Osuna earned a silver medal, falling in straight sets (21-17, 21-19) to the U.S. pair of Evan Cory and Derek Bradford. The silver represents their second podium finish this season since forming their partnership.
Cuba Secures Double Bronze
Cuban teams claimed bronze in both divisions:
- Women: Kailin Garrido and Maykelin Drik
- Men: Damián Gómez and Eblis Veranes, who defeated their Canadian opponents in straight sets
Tour Overview and What's Next
The Zapopan event featured 14 women’s teams and 15 men’s teams representing 12 federations. Support from the Volleyball Federation and the FIVB’s Volleyball Empowerment initiative has played a key role in helping Puerto Rico and Mexico improve and maintain competitiveness on the continental stage.
Next, the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour moves to San Salvador, El Salvador, with matches scheduled from September 12 to 14.
