Puerto Rico's Rising Stars Secure Silver at NORCECA U21 Beach Volleyball Championship

Miabella Musignac and Alanis Nieves of Puerto Rico earned a silver medal at the NORCECA U21 Beach Volleyball Championship, held in Juan Dolio, Dominican Republic. Their achievement marks a promising step for Puerto Rico in the sphere of international beach volleyball.

The tournament featured 15 men’s and 15 women’s teams from 18 national federations throughout the NORCECA region. Despite entering the competition as the 13th seed, Musignac and Nieves advanced to the final after posting four wins in six matches. Their semifinal was a decisive straight-sets win over Costa Rica’s Laura Molina and Sofia Vega.

In the finals, Puerto Rico was overcome by the U.S. duo, Zoey Henson and Sarah Wood, who claimed gold with a 2-0 win (21-13, 21-11). Canada’s team, Ofure Odigie and Ruby Sorra, secured the bronze by defeating the same Costa Rican pair.

Support and Development

Puerto Rico’s strong performance was underpinned by the FIVB Volleyball Empowerment program, which provided $168,000 in coaching support and $17,500 in beach volleyball equipment. Coach Angel Peña has been instrumental in guiding Musignac and Nieves through their development and international play.
