The Cape Town Elite16 Beach Pro Tour tournament has taken an unexpected turn as several top-seeded teams were knocked out during exhilarating quarterfinal matchups. The event, held in Cape Town, saw intense three-set battles and surprising victories that have set up an intriguing semifinal round.
Among the standout performances, Austria’s Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger shocked fans by eliminating the third-seeded Dutch pair, Steven van de Velde and Alexander Brouwer. The Austrians won the gritty contest with set scores of 21-18, 18-21, 16-14.
France’s Remi Bassereau and Calvin Aye also delivered a compelling upset, taking down the second-seeded Brazilians, Evandro Oliveira and Arthur Mariano Lanci. Their 2-1 victory (22-20, 19-21, 15-11) secured a spot in the semifinals and continued the weekend’s trend of breakthrough wins by underdogs.

On the other side of the bracket, Swedish duo Jacob Holting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson, the tournament’s top seeds, dominated their quarterfinal with a decisive 21-13, 21-13 victory over Olympic silver medalists Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler of Germany.
Norway’s Mathias Berntsen and Hendrik Mol proved their strength as well, rolling past Brazil’s Adelmo Folha and Mateus Dultra in straight sets (21-16, 21-14) to complete the semifinals lineup.
